Frequently Asked Questions

How do I connect my Strava account?

Click the "Connect with Strava" button on the home page. You'll be redirected to Strava to authorize the connection. Once authorized, your activities will start being processed automatically (if auto-sync is enabled).

How does the mountain matching work?

Virtual Vertical matches your activity's elevation gain to real mountains from our database. When you log an activity with vertical meters (e.g., 2,000m of elevation gain), we find a mountain with a similar elevation and add information about it to your Strava activity description.

Can I disable automatic syncing?

Yes! Go to Settings and toggle off "Auto-sync new activities." You can still manually sync activities from the Mountains page.

Can I change which mountain was matched to my activity?

Yes! On the Mountains page, click on any climbed mountain and use the "Edit Mountain" option to select a different mountain for that activity.

What data does Virtual Vertical access from Strava?

We only access the data necessary for mountain matching: elevation gain, activity type, activity name, and activity dates. We do not access your personal information beyond what's needed for the app to function.

How do badges work?

Badges are automatically awarded when you meet certain criteria (e.g., climbing the highest peak on each continent for the "7 Summits" badge). Visit the Badges page to see your earned badges and available challenges.

Is my data private?

Yes, your data is completely private. We do not display, share, or disclose your Strava data with other users or third parties. All your climbed mountains, badges, and achievements are only visible to you.

What is the Climb Calculator?

The Climb Calculator helps you plan how to virtually climb a specific mountain. You can calculate the time needed on a treadmill or the number of hill repeats required to reach a mountain's elevation.

How do I disconnect my Strava account?

Click on your profile picture in the top right corner, then select "Log out." This will disconnect your Strava account and stop all data processing.
